Some of teh advantages of CA IDM is it provides Intuitive self service options, automated account provisioning of a user in various application of an organisation, It incorporates various internal product security that makes it secure to implement in an organisation.
  • CA IDM Server is an application server on which we deploy the IDM application. It facilitates  assignment of privileged through provisioning roles, admin roles and access roles. It also provides self service options so users can manage their own account. It helps in integration of business applications with CA identity manager. These business applications can be based on custom business application based on dot net.
  • CA IDM includes two user stores one is CA identity manager user store and other one is provisioning directory. Typically CA identity manager user store is a primary store that contains the user identities so whenever a user is onboarded in IDM system the user data for that will be created in user store.
  • Provisioning directory comes into picture whenever a provisioning of a user needs to be done on an end point. It basically creates an account for that user on that end point.
  • In the Identity management world there is a need to on board new users so the goal is to create users. Then comes the question who can create those users? The answer is IT administrators and Managers, they then inform the actors for the use case. Moving along I will then ask for those users what information are we collecting? The typical attributes would be firstname, lastname, password, userid etc.
  • I would then drill in to each of these attributes and thinking deep such as Does a password policy exist?, Is the password policy auto generated or can the user specify the password they would like, is a password reset necessary, Is there a userid formula or can a user choose their Id.
  • When we take a step back and look at the overall use case we see that IT administrator and the manager can create the user. But  is any sort of workflow involved does HR need to approve the user.
  • Once a user has been created through the approval process and all what about notifications? Do we send an email to the user they need to know their user account has been created? Do we send a notification to the manager? They know that request has been successfully completed.
